These last two years have certainly been a challenge for most of us in some way.
I’ve had to keep a close eye on my mental health at times, and know many others who’ve been the same.
It’s hard not to be affected by what’s been going on in the world.
With challenges however, always come learnings.
I’ve always known movement helps my mental health, but it’s been highlighted even more recently.
Movement, especially Pilates and Yoga, helps us to get out of our head, where our worry, stress and anxiety lives, and turns our focus back into our body.
This keeps us more in the present moment.
It also helps reduce stress hormones and release more happy hormones.
If you’d like to hear more on this topic and learn about my journey into Pilates, thoughts on postpartum recovery, and movement in general, check out the latest podcast interview below with The Purpose Effect…

Permission to pause
"Self-care means giving yourself permission to pause" - Cecilia Tran I've just regrouped after quite a busy month. Today I've enjoyed having some quite time. Admittedly I've been at my lap top catching up on work most of the day, but it's been nice as I haven't even...
How often do you beat yourself up?
I want to share something important I've been noticing coming up lately with some of my clients. That is, negative self talk. I think we're all guilty of this at times. Our internal dialogue, how we speak to ourselves, is so important, not only for our happiness but...
Thanks for your response. I am a “recovering mental health client” and appreciate all you do as well as talking to you about it. Stay safe——M
Thanks Marsha for this note. I really appreciate it. I hear you, me too. It’s a really good topic to keep talking about. Take good care xxx
I just finished listening to Emma’s podcast on The Purpose Effect. It did take 3 days, due to interruptions – even though I am retired life gets in the way! I’d like to thank Emma for being so open about mental health and self care. I wish i had met her years ago, when I didn’t know how to do that. Until recently, and even now, people can be so unintentionally hurtful and non-supportive about these issues. With a background in youth education, it is my hope that more and more our educators will focus on life skills such as mental health awareness and care, from the youngest all through the ages. Thank you Emma for sharing your wisdom so gently with all of us.
This means so much to get this message Marsha 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and also taking the time to listen to the podcast.
I’m really glad to be talking about these topics, as they are so important and so many struggle through thinking they are alone. I will be making it more of a focus moving forward as I believe more people will start exercising if they new it was helping them mentally as well. sending you so much love xxx
