How does 10 – 15 mins per day of
Pilates, Barre, Yoga help you?

How does 10 – 15 mins of exercise really help you ?

I often have this question asked of me and I always say to people they have try to themselves to understand.

Then they usually see realise it can be really effective. (eg like we did in the 21 Day Pilates, Barre & Yoga Challenge)

Moving a little bit is always better than not moving at all. (Of course it’s great if you fit in some longer sessions when you can, but that’s a topic for another day).

By the way it’s also fine to have days off, I don’t mean to say you have to move every day. Everyone needs days off, and sometimes life just gets in the way and we can’t or we just don’t feel like it at all, and that’s ok.  As long as you accept it, and have the mindset to follow the decision. Don’t beat yourself up, or feel guilty or torture yourself (in your head), just because you took a day or two off. Let it go. Be ok, and then restart when you can. That’s always my motto. Learning to be ok with it is so important.

Body Reset Challenge

Then, when you do start back, if you’ve had a break, or just want to take it a bit easy for some reason, you can give yourself permission to start back slow and steady (if that’s what you need).

I’ve just done this myself. In fact, it turns out it will be 3 months off doing Pilates, Yoga and Barre (due to some treatments I had/nothing to be concerned about, as all is fine). However I’ve not had this kind of break off Pilates and my regular exercise routine, since I moved to Malaysia, after selling my Pilates studio over 7 years ago.

During this break, I’ve been walking every day and doing a bit of gym weights and stretches, but as for a pilates, barre or yoga class, hardly any – the odd session one here and there, but nothing much at all.

So now I’m back.

I’m starting slow, I’m starting with 10 – 15 mins, and it’s making a difference. I have let my core relax so much that it actually feels strange to work it again! But it feels good at the same time. I missed it. I’ve never let the belly relax so much ever before in my life! haha

So how does 10 – 15 mins Pilates, Yoga or Barre help…

FOR THE BODY

  • Just as it does in all classes we do, it still strengthens the muscles – you can keep muscles activating in 10 -15 mins a day and prevent them from atrophying (shrinking, not working well)
  • You can release tight muscles – EG the glutes and hips get tight if you walk a lot, keeping them released is important to prevent back pain and imbalance.
  • If you strengthen your arms with weights or push ups etc for 10-15 mins a day, you can keep them toned
  • If you strengthen your back & shoulders you prevent shoulder and neck issues or pain, if you work on the computer a lot
  • If you do mobilising work, you prevent back pain and prevent your body tightening up, especially if at the computer a lot, eg  hip rolls and spinal rotation work
  • 10 – 15 mins core work – planks, side planks, ab series, will keep a strong toned core.
  • 10 – 15 mins of leg work, including calf raises, barre moves, squats etc, will help keep healthy knees, reduce pain in back, and legs, knees and feetFOR THE MIND
  • In 10 – 15 mins we feel like we have achieved something. It is a win.
  • We have moved for the day it allows us to feel good about ourselves
  • We reconnect back to our body,  We become present again when think about our body and not past or future.
  • We focus on our breathing so it helps us to stay calm and focused, and in the present moment.
  • Moving our body helps to move us in life. if we don’t move we stay stagnant, we are less likely to move forward in things, in general, in ideas, in frame of mind and in general progressing.

So this leads me into the new challenge “The 12 Day Body Reset Challenge”.

I’m excited to have created this new fun program, and I think it will be very useful for many of you who, when the need is there, need some TLC classes, some slow build classes, or some short quick bursts!

This is a great example how 10-15 mins per day can help you feel good, regain strength, release tightness, reduce pain, tone up and start to reset your body again after a break.

Let me know how you like it, and what you also think of 10-15 mins exercise time in the comments below.

Lots of love
Em x
