Healthy Mindset
I want to discuss an important topic that relates to us all.
That is – having a healthy Mindset.
Discussing mindset is very relevant now as many new members have been asking about their class scheduling, body and exercise goals.
Mindset is not only important when it comes to exercise but also many other areas of our lives like our body image, how we relate to ourselves and to others, our work, relationships, goals etc
Lets start by talking about exercise Challenges – like the recent 21 Day Challenge.
Challenges are just that, made to challenge you, made to test your abilities and to motivate you.

If it’s achievable for you to continue to workout every day, like we did in the challenge, that’s fantastic!
If that pace is possible for you and makes you feel good, it’s great to keep going with a habit of exercising every day. As long as you’re listening to your body along the way.
However if training every day doesn’t feel good – e.g. you feel stressed, or pressured, or worried if you don’t do your session you’d planned to do. Then you you may need to revisit your scheduling and also your mindset around it.
I believe when it comes to exercise it should be enjoyable.
The mindset we have around our training is what helps us keep going for the long term, making exercise part of our lifestyle not just a season. Keeping a positive feeling around it rather than negative will help us want to continue to exercise.
Watching your self talk is vital for staying in a healthy mindset.
Some examples to look out for are;
- Does trying to fit in exercise every day make you feel stressed?
- If you miss a day do you feel like you need to double to catch up the next day otherwise you feel bad about yourself ?
- Do you exercise to work off food you’ve eaten?
- Do you compare your workout schedule to others and try to keep up?
- Do you feel guilty or say negative things about yourself if you miss a workout – e.g. beat yourself up?
Ideally we are setting realistic goals for ourselves that are achievable and that make us feel good when we achieve them.
Rather than unrealistic goals and not achieving them and then feeling down on yourself.
When we set ourselves up for success we feel good. When we set ourselves up for failure this can set us back mentally.
So if life gets in the way, and you miss a session, it’s important to not beat yourself up. If you say negative things to yourself, feel bad, feel disappointed or guilty, this potentially leads to not training, over eating, and just spirals.
Keep a glass half full approach. Being kind, forgiving and loving to yourself. This is a healthy mindset.
This doesn’t mean not having goals and challenging yourself.
There’s a big difference to giving into your excuses and not exercising and being mindful of our self talk.
We are all lazy sometimes and don’t want to exercise, but when it happens, accept it and be ok with it. Just make tomorrow a new day.
