Allow yourself to be
How often do you allow yourself to just be?
I know for me this is a challenge. I grew up being busy. Our family were heavily into activities and sports and we also started to work at a young age. My parents trained us young how to work and save money, which I’m forever grateful for. In fact they did this because they also had the same upbringing, they both worked from a young age.
These are great values, however what I’ve noticed over the years is that I always found it hard to relax and just be. It was not and still is a challenge for me.
On our recent holiday to Hawaii, as you know I did some ‘work’ (if you can call it that as shooting a video on the beach is really nice work right!), however I also had many days of nothing, which I truely needed. In these times of the internet, some of us are rarely off our screens. It was nice to be amongst nature and to often be without a wifi connection.
When you work for yourself it is often challenging to set boundaries on your time. It is also another level again when your passion is your work. When and how to switch off can become a challenge and also a blurry line.
I have been in the Pilates business now for over 16 years, and I continue to be re inspired with ideas, with clients, with other instructors, with trainings, with business, with challenges I have to overcome and of course always new learnings. This makes what I do fun and wanting to always do more. However we often need to take a note and be mindful, how much we are ‘doing’ and be sure to allow time to just ‘be’.
So for me, amongst the next busy month, I will be attempting to continue with those moments of no wifi, no work and some down time which I had in Hawaii. This is vital for our wellbeing.
Let me how you go with just ‘being’.
I would love to hear back from you on what you thought of this month’s focus in the comments below or on our Facebook group.
Lots of love
