Who Am I?

I watched a movie the other night called “Flight” (R) starting Denzel Washington.

The move ends with Denzel’s son interviewing him.

He asks “who are you?”

Denzel’s response to him was “that’s a good question”

Have you ever asked yourself this question?

It’s a deep one, and not one that will be fully answered in this months focus, however it’s a good idea to sometimes ask yourself this question.

Knowing yourself on a deeper level will help you to consciously experience life’s fullness – love, kindness, compassion, joy, peace and happiness.

We often think we are our roles or labels in life, like I’m Australian, I’m a girl, I’m a mother, I’m a Doctor, I’m a husband etc. These are our gender, nationality, job and relationship situation etc.

In fact, who we are is not any of these things. These are just the labels people and or society put on us.

You are also not your fears, worries and insecurities. You are also not what you have or would like to have.

Underneath and beyond all these is your true nature – who you really are.

You are not our thoughts, you are not your history, you are not your past trauma or your worst traits.

Life happens, and who we really are is always there, it’s always underneath all these things mentioned above.

We all have a true home, that is untouched by all these things, that is unwavering.

Our true nature is who we are on those quiet moments when we are not worried, when we are feeling joy, happiness and peace.

This is who you are.

Think about a baby. It is innocent, content (apart from when it’s hungry), it’s free from all the worries and concerns of life and what society brings. When you look into it’s eyes, you see this.

We are born with our true nature. It is always within us. It is always there to return to. Like our own internal home.

Often we search for happiness in things, in objects, in achievements and or experiences, yet our true happiness lies within us.

We can access this anytime.

Mediation and Yoga help us to find this peaceful state of mind.

I wanted to touch on this subject briefly this month, to spark some interest for you.

We are also on the last few days of the 21 Day challenge and in these classes I speak a lot about mindfulness, meditation and breathing.

These are all tips and tools to help us to tap into our true nature. To help us clear and calm the mind.

It is when our mind is calm, we have the opportunity to choose before we respond or react to life’s pressures.

When we can step back from the “things” that we think we should be worried, stressed or concerned about. This is when we can access more of our true nature. This is when we begin to live a more conscious and joyful life.

So my challenge to you us to start some kind of mindfulness, if you don’t already.

If you do already practice mediation, perhaps just start to ask yourself this question during your meditation. See what comes up for you.

A great way to start some mindfulness is through breathtaking practice.

You can try the Yoga classes from the 21 Day Challenge if you haven’t already, or try one of my other mindfulness classes in the Core Fit Club.  Here is a link to a >> New Starter Guide To Meditation

Starting is the first step.

Let me know how you go and what you think of this months focus.

I’d love to know in the comments below and or in the Facebook group.

Lots of love
